Lighthouses in Cape Town to visit

One of Cape Town’s early European explorers, Bartolomeu Dias, nicknamed the city Cabo das Tomrentas: The Cape of Storms. True to this moniker, there are days when thick fog rolls in, or gale force winds pummel the shores, and waves reach monumental heights, sometimes crashing over onto buildings and roads. Today the city is well equipped to handle the temperamental seas, but the 1800s were a dangerous time for sailors. The entire coastline is littered with the rusting wrecks of vessels claimed by those tumultuous seas.

By the 1900s, the peninsula was dotted with lighthouses which served to warn ships of the rocky outcrops that define the Cape coast. Of course, they have a practical use, but they’re also really pretty to look at. Here is our pick of the prettiest lighthouses in Cape Town. Visit them, and you’re guaranteed a great view and some fantastic photo ops.

Nine Differently-Abled Children Prepare for the Iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour

Super-Human Cyclists Give the Gift of Adventure

On Sunday 11 March 2018 nine differently-abled children, ranging from eight- to twenty-years-old and with varying disabilities, will share in the spirit and camaraderie of the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour towed by able-bodied cyclists in specially manufactured buggies.

Partnering with Cape Town Tourism on this event for the second year, and with new buggies sponsored in 2018 by The Diamond Works Institute, CapeNature, Enterprise Solutions 365, and Pedal Power Association, the Warrior On Wheels Foundation aims to promote universal access in tourism and sporting events while giving the gift of adventure to some brave children who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity of participating in an event of this nature.

“CapeNature is honoured and proud to form part of this initiative. Providing universal access is at the core of what we promote. It is heart-warming that through this race we can give differently-abled children the joy of adventu..

The most romantic restaurants in Cape Town

Cape Town is one of the best places in the world to be in love. With ocean, mountain, forest, and beach surrounding the city on all sides, there’s a majestic view around every corner. Cape Town is also where you’ll find some of the best restaurants in the world, with beautiful settings. Here are our favourite restaurants for date night, where the romance flows like a good wine.

Cassia Restaurant, Durbanville
Cassia is situated on the Nitida Wine Estate. The restaurant is light and airy with large windows. Choose a table near the windows for uninterrupted views of the farm dam and vines. The portions are generous and the food is fresh and seasonal—their famous pork belly with litchi-infused passion fruit glaze is bold and hearty, while the linefish and Jamaican flatbread is a unique and flavourful choice.

Water-wise accommodation in Cape Town

Cape Town is currently experiencing the worst drought in over a century, and as Day Zero approaches, it’s more important than ever to make conscious choices when visiting. We’ve approached hotels in the city to find out what they’re doing to conserve water, and here are some of our favourite and most sustainable places to stay during the drought.

For more information about the water crisis and how you can help, click here.

The Tsogo Sun hotel group has 10 hotels in and around Cape Town, one of the most recognisable on the Cape Town skyline is the Southern Sun The Cullinan. Other hotels include the SunSquare Cape Town City Bowl, Southern Sun Waterfront, Southern Sun Newlands, Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard, and StayEasy Century City.
